Quality & Patient Safety

The bariatric surgery team at the Bariatric & Metabolic Center of Colorado is among the best in Colorado. Dr. Long has dedicated his life to helping patients lose weight and improve their quality of life. He partners with each patient to better understand what makes them unique. From there he works to build an individually-molded and comprehensive treatment plan specifically for each patient. He meets each patient where they are in their journey and incorporates a full array of non-surgical weight loss tools. The results have been excellent: our participating weight loss surgery patients experience greater weight loss, less weight regain, and suffer fewer complications than the national average*.

We recently applied a novel post-op pain management system to the field of bariatric surgery that eliminates a majority of post-op surgical site pain for most patients and reduces the need for painkillers without the hassle of external tubes.

Honors & Recognitions

The Bariatric & Metabolic Center of Colorado has some of the highest honors awarded to weight loss surgery centers. Our practice exceeds the highest criteria of the American College of Bariatric Surgeons. We have earned the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Comprehensive MBSAQIP Center designation. At a recent site review, the ASMBS made several recommendations for best practices nationally based on our model of care. We are consistently in the 99th percentile of patient satisfaction as measured by Press Ganey. Our highly skilled and comprehensive weight loss team has been carefully selected with you in mind. Collectively our team is consistently recognized for demonstrating the skills and passion necessary to help you lose weight and keep it off*.

Our Care Philosophy

Dr. Joshua Long, our chief surgeon and the former Bariatric Medical Director for Parker Adventist Hospital, has dedicated his life to your weight loss journey. As a perfectionist, he personally commits to doing an excellent surgery every time and to staying in the operating room until each patient’s bariatric surgery has been done as well as is humanly possible, using a variety of approaches to best match anatomical variation*.

We’re With You Every Step

Even after surgery, we work with our patients every step of the way and consider your care a lifelong partnership. Our passion is helping you regain your health and succeed over a life-long journey*.

To make that happen, we’ve carefully assembled your team of experts to provide every weight-loss service you’ll need, from nutrition and psychological counseling to patient education to post-operative support. We offer dietary and behavioral counseling and cultivate support groups of other bariatric patients to provide a warm culture of motivation to keep patients on track.

At the Bariatric & Metabolic Center of Colorado, we’re more than a weight loss surgery practice. We’re experts at using a variety of tools to help people lose weight and keep it off*. Our surgical options include:

Each of these weight loss surgeries is a powerful solution and can help people lose weight who have struggled in the past*. Each option is safe, and Dr. Long works every day to prevent potential complications and to further enhance the procedures and surgical care*. We also offer non-surgical weight loss options.

Laparopscopic Surgeries

One way that we continually pursue the best for our patients is by employing laparoscopic surgeries. Laparoscopic surgery, also called minimally invasive surgery, involves performing the operation through tiny incisions that are often barely visible after they heal. The surgeon first inserts a laparoscope, a small tube attached to a video camera, into the incision and performs the surgery using the camera as a guide.

Laparoscopic surgery lowers the risk of bleeding, infections, and pain, and generally quickens recovery times so you can return to activity faster. It is safer and less invasive than traditional open surgery*.

In some cases, we can also offer single site bariatric surgery where all of the instruments are passed through a single incision.

Medical Weight Loss

In addition to bariatric surgery, we also offer a range of bariatric medical options including weight loss medications, meal replacement programs, and lifestyle transformation through healthy food and activity choices.

We realize that weight loss surgery may not be the right path for everyone, and we’re committed to helping you on your journey no matter which path you take. That said, if you’ve been struggling to lose weight, or if you lose 30 pounds only to regain it, then weight loss surgery is a powerful strategy to help you lose weight and keep it off*.

Losing Weight and Keeping It Off

Our program isn’t just about weight loss. Plenty of people around the country have lost hundreds of pounds, only to regain the weight and end up right back where they were before. Here at the BMCC, we view surgery as the most powerful tool you can use to level the playing field. However, we believe that it is only one tool that you’ll need to maintain your weight loss and healthy life. That’s why we’ve created an innovative educational program to help you embrace a healthy lifestyle after bariatric surgery*. This lifestyle includes increasing amounts of exercise and healthy eating so you can dramatically improve your health and enjoy seeing your dreams become reality for the rest of your life*.

Our passion is helping you to lose weight and keep it off, dramatically improving your health and quality of life*. We’re committed to helping you achieve that goal.
