Do you struggle with your weight? Do you diet and exercise like a champion and lose 50 pounds or even more, only to watch as the scale creeps back up?

Are you interested in a long-term solution to lose weight and keep it off, but are not sure if you can afford duodenal switch surgery?

If you’re struggling with obesity and are interested in learning more about your weight loss options, specifically the duodenal switch procedure, we’ve broken down everything you need to know. From the affordable costs and inclusive pricing we offer at the BMCC to the basics involved in the procedure, here’s what you need to know about the cost and benefits of duodenal switch surgery.

What Is Loop Duodenal Switch Surgery?

This surgery involves restrictive and malabsorptive elements. In the restrictive part of the procedure, about 85% of the stomach is removed to form a smaller sleeve shaped stomach that restricts the amount of food a patient can eat.

The malabsorptive part of the surgery involves bypassing about half of the small intestine. The first portion of the small intestine just after the stomach, referred to as the duodenum, is divided and a loop of small intestine about 10 feet from the end is connected to the divided duodenum just after the stomach. This allows for food to bypass a large portion of the small intestine in order absorb fewer calories, strengthening your potential for rapid weight loss and metabolic benefits.

Because of the malabsorptive element of this surgery, patients have to be committed to a life-long vitamin and protein supplement program in order to ensure they get the proper amount of healthy nutrients.

At the BMCC, our double-board certified bariatric surgeon offers duodenal switch surgery as a minimally invasive surgery. This can substantially reduce pain, complications and side effects, recovery time, and time spent in the hospital.

How Much Weight Can You Lose with a Duodenal Switch?

Duodenal switch surgery has helped many of our patients lose between 85-100% of their unhealthy body weight. Imagine how that would feel.

Duodenal switch surgery, and other forms of bariatric procedures we perform at the BMCC (gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgery), can be transformative, but they aren’t magical cures. Patients still need to commit to a complete lifestyle change that consists of a healthy diet and regular exercise habits.

Is Duodenal Switch Right for Me?

Each patient is unique, which is why some bariatric surgeries are better for some patients and not others. You might be an ideal candidate for duodenal switch surgery if you:

For patients who suffer from any of the following, we encourage them to consider other weight loss surgery options like gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery.

How Much Does Duodenal Switch Surgery Cost?

The average cost of the duodenal switch procedure without medical insurance is around $23,000 and is more than $30,000 in some areas. The BMCC offers some of the lowest rates in the Denver area and nationally, and our patients can expect to pay $20,060. Our pricing includes the cost of surgery, as well as preop care, bariatric education, anesthesia fees, surgeon fees, hospital stay, and 3 months of postop care. This is our transparent cash-pay price, meaning the price you see is the price you will pay if you choose to pay for surgery out-of-pocket.

Does Medicare Pay for Surgery?

Yes, along with gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgery, the duodenal switch is currently covered by Medicare. However, in order for the cost of weight loss surgery to be covered, there are certain requirements patients must meet. You can read the full list here.

What Are My Other Payment Options?

At the BMCC we accept most Colorado and national health insurance providers, as well as Medicare. Due to high demand, we occasionally have a waitlist for Medicaid patients. Similar to Medicare, Colorado Medicaid patients must meet certain medical criteria in order to have their procedure covered.

If you don’t have a health insurance plan that offers weight loss surgery coverage, the BMCC offers very affordable cash payment options. The prices we have listed are cash-pay costs. If you choose to pay through insurance, the amount will depend on your deductible, coinsurance, and copay.

Make an Investment in Yourself

Affordable, dramatic weight loss surgery is possible, and we are committed to your long-term success. Our competitive, inclusive surgery costs are designed meet the diverse needs of many different patients and to help you maximize your long-term weight loss.

The commitment that weight loss surgery requires can be daunting, but making the investment in surgery can help you save money in the long run. People who suffer from obesity pay 81% more for healthcare in the form of prescription drugs, higher health insurance premiums, and more medical bills. After surgery, you’ll also have more energy and fewer aches and pains—which can make you substantially more productive at work.

But there’s more benefit to surgery than just saving money long-term. It’s about reclaiming your health and your quality of life. Our patients commonly state that weight loss surgery has helped them get their life back. They’ve run marathons and had super soaker fights with their grandchildren. Others have enjoyed water skiing, climbing 14ers, and shopping for new clothes.

You deserve to live your best life, rather than feeling trapped in your own body. Let us help you realize this dream.

If you’re ready to take this transformative step on your weight loss journey towards a healthier and happier you, we want to help. You can call our friendly office staff to discuss your options, we are always happy to answer any of your questions.
