Healthy Living
Our goal at the Bariatric & Metabolic Center of Colorado is not just to help you lose weight. Our goal is to be your partner on your journey to improve your health, your happiness, and your quality of life. We’re here to help you live the life you’ve always dreamed of living*.
Bariatric surgery can help people lose weight in a way that few other methods can. Those struggling with their weight often diet hard, exercise, and lose weight; only to regain it. 80% to 95% of patients who lose weight regain their weight within a few years. Weight loss surgery is a powerful tool to help you level your playing field so that you can finally lose weight and keep it off*.
Benefits of Weight Loss
Persistent weight loss means you will have fewer health problems than you do before surgery*. As a result of being severely overweight, patients frequently suffer from health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, infertility, osteoarthritis and joint pain; as well as coronary heart disease. Weight loss surgery can help improve or even resolve many of these issues*. Bariatric surgery has been proven to reduce, and in many cases cure, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, and heart disease; as well as reduce the risk of cancer (For a full list of medical problems caused by obesity, many of which can be treated by bariatric surgery, click here)*.
By reducing your risk for these conditions, bariatric surgery also reduces how much medication you need on a daily basis*. Before surgery, many patients are dependent on rigorous medication regimes to manage their various weight-related diseases, such as diabetes and high cholesterol. Weight loss surgery can help improve or resolve many of these issues, meaning many patients no longer need their medications*.
Improving Your Quality of Life
Bariatric patients often see their quality of life improve significantly. After weight loss surgery, patients have more energy, less joint pain, and are more able to enjoy life*. They are at lower risk for developing cancer and type 2 diabetes*.
Many women who struggle with being severely overweight are at risk of being unable to have children. Typically, within 3 months of undergoing bariatric surgery, many women regain normal healthy fertility. Patients also tend to live longer: the risk of dying and early death decreases by 89% in just the first 5 years after bariatric surgery*. All of this leads to our patients having more active, healthier, more fulfilling lives*. You can find stories of patients just like you who have gone through bariatric surgery and seen their quality of life improve on our bariatric surgery testimonials page page*.
Whole Person Health
Dr. Long believes that each person has been created uniquely, and that this gives each person a distinct intrinsic value. Although our culture often imposes bias and degrades your value based on circumstances or appearance, in all of our interactions we strive to reveal your value. When patients begin to understand that their value is not defined by their circumstances, their appearance, or their weight—but has instead already been defined—this leads to a state of whole person health.
